Changing the Face of Beauty

A photo opportunity fell into my lap last Friday night. A dear friend of mine, Andi, also a portrait photographer called asking if I was able to help out the next day, since the other shooter backed out.

I adore kids. I adore Andi. I'm a sucker for a good cause... and I love photographing people of all ages.

The next day, I loaded my gear and headed to Kenosha to a beauty salon where we'd set up.

The energy in the room was electric. So many happy and sweet faces.

They have head shot clinics all over the country. The parents pay a small fee and in return they receive images to take to talent agencies.

Peter, the last young man on the blog is an Ambassador for Children's Craniofacial Association. Peter enjoys speaking to students who have read the book Wonder and answering what it's really like to live with a facial deformities. http://www.petesdiary.com/

I just started reading it and I'm hooked! This is from my friend Jean. "The kids and I have read Wonder along with the follow up stories including the Julian chapter. They are great perspectives on the joy, beauty, confusion, fear, and hope of being, living with or just encountering a person with severe facial differences."

I was honored and humbled to be a part of something special.

Thanks to all that made it happen.

The American Flag

copyright:Stephanie Bartz Photography- don't steal it's bad karma

While out and about last week scouting farms, I noticed the abundance of American Flags.
I saw the a huge painted flag on a white barn that I had to photograph. Timing was on my side, the farmer pulled up just as I was turning around on the road and I asked him if it was alright to take a few photos of the flag. The stars were hand cut out of an old piece of metal that was part of another building. He told me he didn't want to have to paint every star on the barn.

Gooooooooooooooooooood day Sunshine!

I loves me some sunflowers! I happened to be in Madison on a shoot last week and was able to check sunflower days in peak season at the Pope Farm Conservancy in Middleton,WI!

My co-worker/friend, Carrie and I hiked in to see these beauties. That's Carrie getting her art on.

I was thrilled seeing so many people with real cameras and were enjoying the beauty that surrounded them. The bees were a-buzzin all around = a good thing.

Ideally the best light is sunrise or sunset but sometimes( most times)  you gotta go with the flow.
Enjoy!
